Heyho,

Original phone wouldn't work, so i guess hardware failure was the original cause.

Either way, it doesn't matter - I plugged in an Nokia 3109c with a standard USB
cable (its one of the few phones I've seen with a regular size usb connector - no
nokia cable required)

address@hidden nagios]# gnokii --identify
GNOKII Version 0.6.19
IMEI         : 359561018651438
Manufacturer : Nokia
Model        : Nokia 3109c
Product name : Nokia 3109c
Revision     : V 05.50

Changed the config to use AT, and it worked straight away. All is well again.

Thanks for the help,

Dave

So, one of the guys brought in a 6310i today - not exactly the same, but supported.
I hooked it up, and fired up gnokii - no joy - exact same result.

I hooked it up to a different RHEL machine - fresh install of gnokii, same config - still
no joy.

To check the cable was good - I downloaded nokia PC suite to my Win32 pc, and
hooked up the phone and cable - to my suprise, it worked fine.

I'm going to try the original phone with the PC suite software, to check if the original
hardware is ok. Then i'm going to test the serial port - maybe something wierd
there....

Hi Dave

Have you tried stopping the Nagios stuff for a while, so it doesn't
access the port, and then use minicom or similar pointed at the serial
port at the correct speed?

Type an AT [return] and I'd expect the phone to respond. If it does, try
model=at and see if Gnokii responds.

If it doesn't respond, you may want to check that serial port. If you
loop pins 2 and 3, and type in minicom, you should get it echoed back.

I'm using a 6210 myself, and I think I'm using AT with it. There's some
about on Ebay, but they are not cheap :-(.
