That's true.

In a related note: that may very well be the reason for the
occaisional (harmless enough) reports about an invariant violation in
the inode signature code.   (Workaround for now is to delete some
{arch}/,,inode-sigs files.)   In the course of extending the
optimization for explicit, I suspect that that bug will be fixed.
