Hmmm.  No pristine tree is good (I forgot that they're still there!);
that's supported by the --no-pristine option to get.

However, the great bulk of the time spent during a checkout seems (based
on my eyeballing) to be in fetching and applying changesets (and maybe
in fetching the base cacherev/import-tree), and it seems unlikely that
tla will support partial changeset application soon.
