Right, I meant to imply that with the pkgsrc build.

gtar has no issue untarring any file tla fails on, but the issue seems
to be somewhere in the interaction between tla and tar. In particular,
it seems odd that it doesn't fail consistently. It fails most of the
time, but usually in different places in the extraction and if I run it
enough with a given small patch, I can usually get it to go through.
