I agree that implementing a filesystem on a RDBMS, is not an optimal solution, 
because RDBMS is designed to remove the notion of filesystem (file,directory 
etc ...), so implementing something on a system that was designed to remove 
file notion ....

To store data structured with a POSIX style, the better is the native 
filesystem.

RDBMS can do a very good job if we respect the RDBMS view of how data must be 
structured for using such system.

My view is whatever approach is used to store data, it is not an innocent 
decision to try to mix different approach.
