That's one reason Microsoft loves open source. Microsoft can observe 
 the market appeal of open source "innovation and quality" and with
it's army of programmers, it can incorporate the marketable 
qualities into it's proprietary software.

Microsoft loves "Free Software" and the GPL even more. The 
intimidation tactics of free softies prevents smaller proprietary
companies from offering much in the way of competition to Microsoft
since they lack the army of programmers to rewrite and thus emulate 
the "innovation and quality" of free/open source code.

The GPL is the best friend Microsoft ever had! Microsoft lends 
lip-service credence to the fearsome effects of the GPL so as to 
assist in the intimidation of any potential proprietary competitors 
while ROFL in their marketing and legal departments.

THE GPL IS THE BEST FRIEND MICROSOFT EVER HAD. Open source advocates 
are ideologically blinded to these facts.
