The added discussion too theoretical, so I edited it to be more practical
(actually making randomly valued images and measuring everything) in

d44f10be4e15] of the 'stderr' branch of my development project on Gitlab.
In the end, I reach a strange result that I don't have time to investigate (1:
the equation doesn't hold, 2: the error in mean doesn't change with number of
images). They are explained in a "cartouche" at the end of that section.
Can you read the new version of this section and see what I am getting wrong?
