I think it's better to put C3 first before playing F4. However, the later variations will strongly depend on wether black or white could do the ladder attack.

In a game on nngs today, gnugo played the avalanche joseki, and the
opponent played a non-standard sequence.

GNU Go continued with white C6.  Gunnar points out this is problematic
because B can atari at F4 and then F5, and the play B4 for a very good
result.

I think the correct continuation is W F4.  Is this correct?  I think that
this position is worth adding to the joseki database.
