You don't need a Flash drive, a 50M business-card sized CD would work as well. That would leave you with a non-editable database (if you can get it to work at all)
But you can combine the bootable GnuMed client CD with an USB stick storing the database files...
What is the need for storing database files on the USB stick, is this for "caching" purposes?
If the connection to the server should be interrupted, is there a need to preserve these "cache" files, in order to somehow later reconcile them with the server?
Is this why you would need a USB stick in *addition* to a client CD, and not just a client CD by itself, because even if you *could* configure to write cache files onto the computer whose temporary use you were permitted, you would be unable to take the cached files with you and/or it would be insecure to leave them on the borrowed computer?
