Note that, say, "**dm1;" will expand to "Diabetes mellitus 1;" (including
the semicolon that triggered the replacement). Thus you can write

   **dm1: elevated sugars

and GNUmed will turn this into

   Diabetes mellitus 1: elevated sugars

for you.
