After working on a fix for many hours we still don't know what the problem is 
but how to make it go away.

replace 

self.Fit() by self.FitInside()

in gmNarrativeWidgets.py
in

def _on_expando_needs_layout(self, evt):

If this proves to work in Linux as well I think we can include it in GNUmed 
0.9.x
