Hi Robert,

Things are moving -- though not as fast as I'd like.

Hi all,

Hopefully I'm not barging in here. I saw the web page
at gnu.org and read some old posts on the mailing
list. I managed to listen to the hello comparison example
and it sounded very nice. I was hoping to find the
longer demos somewhere but haven't yet.

I should put some longer demos on the gnu site. There are some other organisational things I have to sort out as well. The swamp is somewhat stuffed with alligators right now but it will happen "real soon now". I could maybe email you a couple of things directly. I am working on adding stuff to the site, in between times, but have had technical problems over the last little while (ever since my Core 2 system died!) I'mm currently working on a Mac G5 and upgrading the other machine to Core 4. Living on an island complicates some of these things, especially when there are frequent wind storms! :-)

I'm a Linux user and developer looking for a way
to convert some ebooks into mp3s for listening
while travelling. What I've gleaned is that there
are various porting activities in the works.
The one I'm most interested in is the "real-time Monet"
that runs as a daemon.

I am currently working on a port of "Syntheisizer" to Mac OS/X. That is a basic tool for research using the system and I'd like to get it finished before taking on anything else. However, when it *is* finished, I should be in a good position to get real-time Monet done fairly expeditiously. No-one else is working on stuff at present :-(

Actually, for my purposes
a batch version would be perfectly fine that just read
a text file and wrote out a .wav file. Of course not being dependent
on GnuStep would be nice, but it sounds like that may
be further off. Is that in the works now?

A system to convert text to a .wav (or .au or .snd) file would likely be the first step towards real-time Monet. What's your time scale? I might hope to have that by June.

Have you looked at any of the documentation?
(http://www.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/~hill/ and go to "papers" -- it is referenced from the gnu site)

Thanks for any answers, it looks like a nifty project.

Thanks!
