this is true, I have no good fix yet. It is due to changes in NSMatrix which are actually "proven" to be correct by checking behaviour on Cocoa.

The correct way to fix is not by just having the Matrix draw its background again, but to draw it correctly both with cells and empty space. This did not happen and lead problems to theming.

Fix is under investigation.
