Interesting idea.  Pstch applied, with a few changes to get it to 
always compile (outside of #ifndef FORCE_NOWAIT).

I expect it will not stay quite so simple, but this might help a few
RasPi people..

I also added some text to the gpsd man page, please check out
my change there to see if it makes sense.
