I set the GROFF_TMPDIR to other location which has more disk space,
problem solved.  Thank for all the help.

I don't think there is an intrinsic limit, since 'troff' itself does
not look ahead very far.

However, if (as your email address suggests might be the case)
you are also using 'tbl' to make tables, then you could possibly
hit a problem since 'tbl' looks at the whole table in order to
determine column widths, and could therefore accumulate a very
large "pending" output.

I believe, though, that failure may reflect a system limitation
(e.g. running out of temporary file space) rather than an intrinsic
groff limit.

I am copying you mail, wht this reply, to the groff list in case
anyone else has better information than the above.
