Now, unless I'm misreading the intent, the documented \n[.U] is ascribed 
behavior opposite to what actually happens.  According to the manual, "If 
gtroff is called with the -U command line option, the number register .U is set 
to 1, otherwise to zero."

On groff 1.19.3 (on Solaris), I used an example file k.1 with the following two 
lines:

.sy pwd
.tm \\n[.U] is \n[.U]

I then got the following with and without -U respectively:

% groff -Uz k.1
/home/ds26
\n[.U] is 0

% groff -z k.1
k.1:1: .sy request not allowed in safer mode
\n[.U] is 1


Either the doc or the progam should change, no?

BTW, this has been introduced in version 1.19.1.
