I can live with this for now - not very convenient, but not a disaster
either. I'll need to play around with these SRFI's and their
implementations, but at least it looks promising.

Not yet. At least with object hierarchy of exceptions answer now looks
clear: there are different but equally sane solution OUTSIDE of GUILE
core. Ok. But what about GUILE extensions written in C ? Lack of sane
place to put C glue libraries bothers me. Not since this is such a big
issue - it's minor issue.And THAT is reason it's bothering me: why
project with over 8 years history STILL has such minor basic issues
unresolved ? Are there are developers who can support GUILE or is it
semi-abandoned project like HURD ? What goes on ? May be this stuff is
handled by outside extension as well ? If so - then why ? And what is
name of said extension ? Why it's unused by existiong extensions like
guile-gnome-platform ? This sort of things...
