Is the vendor always trustworthy?

Think about vulnerabilities in e.g. router firmware from companies like
Cisco and Juniper, which were undiscovered for a long time – and one can
reasonably argue that these have been back-doors. Also Intel Chips
include a lot of magic called "Intel Management Engine" (IME) or "Active
Management Technology" [1].
