Hello Luis and the GNU Health team
Creating an accurate record of a patient's
allergies / adverse reactions is a rather complex process.
ICD-10 has a very
limited number of descriptions and codes for drug and non-drug allergies.
Whereas the international SNOMED CT coding system has codes for drugs, drug
groups and non-drug allergens.
Should GNU Health include SNOMED CT codes for
recording allergies? By recording a patient allergy to "Penicillin" it should
be possible to cross check for any penicillin type drugs as they are prescribed
in GNU Health.
I attach an (incomplete) spreadsheet to illustrate my thoughts.
Might someone from the WHO be able to help / comment?
Regards
Andrew
