According to my documentation, within the control section you should
be able to define the Lock and Log directories as follows:
control:
        LockDirectory = ( /some/path/to/place/locks )
        LogDirectory = ( /some/path/to/log/to )

And that should work in 1.5.3 as well as 1.5.4.
