Actually, you can run the config files on the same run by downloading them
in the preconf script. My preconf script runs something like this:
cfengine --no-preconf -f copyscript
The no-preconf is important since this is run *from* the preconf script. I
use an alternate cfengine script that just has the copy commands in it so
it doesn't bog down trying to run all the other commands. Works quite
well.
