[h-e-w] On-topic? Was: Save as?

It should be noted that Morgan's original issue is a
general emacs question, not related specifically to
the Windows port of emacs. Though it is not unusual
for such a question to evoke a quick answer on this
list, it is probably not appropriate to propagate a
lengthy thread on such an off-topic issue. Better to
refer such questions to the gnu.emacs.help news group,
where there are many folks who are happy to help out
on general emacs questions - as well as a much larger
readership who can also benefit from the answers.

Please try to keep this principle in mind in future
when faced with similarly non-Windows-specific emacs
questions on this list. The off-topic questions are
inevitable; but we need to try (politely) to clue the
folks who ask them in to other, more appropriate help
resources at gnu.org. It may often be possible to
give a quick answer as well a pointer away from this
list "for future reference". The presence of such an
away-pointer in a response may be taken as a hint to
other would-be responders that further responses in
this forum are probably not warranted.

Regards,
  David V.
