If I exclude GSYSMS, will this affect the search capabilities in my HTML
docs?

Currently, htags(1) needs GSYMS.
% htags -f
htags: -f option needs GSYMS. Please make it.

If you cannot make GSYMS then you can take following workaround.
% cp /dev/null GSYMS
% htags -f
% _
I'll modify htags so that it can continue the job even if GSYMS doesn't
exist.
