In this particular case `gnus-extract-address-components' works better: (gnus-extract-address-components "\"Harald H.-J. Bongartz\" <bongie@gmx.net>") ==> ("Harald H.-J. Bongartz" "bongie@gmx.net") But usually `mail-extract-address-components' is more reliable (but also really complicated).
