I suggest you take a look at anything.el and all the possible sources
you can add to it. I have `anything' bound to F3 in my Emacs and I
type F3 to switch buffers or to open recent files or to open files
from my bookmarks. No need to think anymore :) Some day I will
integrate my file name cache into it as well...
