I want to do that too, how do I do a conditional abbrev?
Currently I have:

(define-abbrev c-mode-abbrev-table "for"
  "" 'c-style-for-loop)
(define-abbrev c++-mode-abbrev-table "for"
  "" 'c-style-for-loop)

how would I make it only expand in uncommented code?
