Actually, AFAIK the exact same problem appears in X-windows when you
start Emacs from the GUI and you set your PATH in your shell's
config file. Tho since the problem has been known for so many years and
affects so many programs that maybe recent gdm startup scripts have
finally tried to attack this problem rather than keep waiting to hope
complaining-users will just go away?
