The original idea was that (depending on the situation) one host be could be designated "master" with all the other permitted hosts listed but set as "manual" and have other hosts connect when ready.

Maybe the thing to do would be to have a job which does an occasional "ping" and if it gets through do a "connect"?

I need to rethink this a bit. I'll come back in the next week with some ideas. Trouble is of course is that the world and his auntie are using the current system so it'll have to understand the current setup as well and do the same thing.

Maybe we ought to call the hosts file something else.
