I am trying to reinstall grub on my system.  Grub was installed before but I have had hard drive troubles, so one of the drives does not have grub on it.  I have a lvm on top of a mirror raid.

I run the following command
$sudo grub-install /dev/sda
[sudo] password for mpower:
/usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Your embedding area is unusually small.  core.img won't fit in it..
/usr/sbin/grub-setup: error: embedding is not possible, but this is required when the root device is on a RAID array or LVM volume.

This seems odd since it has grub on it.  I really should have tried sdb first.  But none the less if I look at sda it has 62 unused sectors on the front.  From what I have read that is the right amount

$ sudo fdisk -l /dev/sda

Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders, total 976773168 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00018e76

   Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System
/dev/sda1              63   976768064   488384001   fd  Linux raid autodetect

Any idea what broke?
