Does version of make create some problem ?

Dear Sir/Madam,

 

I am using a makefile to build some archives. The make utility version in my system is 3.74  Does it in anyway affect the behaviour of the make command. Right now I am getting some errors when I run the run the makefile. I need some information in this regard.
