If you do this, make will update all .d file when $(DEPDIR)'s timestamp
is changed (which happens, for example, when you create new files in a
directory). You would probably want to make $(DEPDIR) an order-only
prerequisite:

$(DEPDIR)%.d: %.cpp | $(DEPDIR)
