axis & randn

Just out of curiosity, are there any plans for some of the built-in
functions to be updated in the next release of octave to resemble Matlab
updates? Specifically, will there be a 'randn' function instead of
needing to use 'rand'? And will the 'v=axis' command return the axis
values for the current figure?

Since I am forced to switch between Matlab and Octave often, the greater
the compatibility, the better for me.

Thanks
