capture gshow output? |

Hello,
Can anyone please tell me if there is (or is not) a simple
way to capture "gshow" output? I have a plot function in
which it would be useful to determine the xrange and yrange
values set by a previous "gset" command. Can I somehow
have the "gshow" output put into a string which I can scan
for the appropriate values?
Thanks.
P.S. I'm using octave version 2.0.16
