This happens with every call to fork. One solution
is to remove the fork calls from octave and use
spawn instead, but I haven't had a chance to

Andy Adler's octave-2.1.42+octave-forge
distribution from octave.sf.net, which I believe
has all of the extensions compiled in rather than
loading them as oct files.
