Here's my two cents on improving the documentation of Octave. It would seem that new users of Octave are the most apt to what the manual is lacking. However, it is probably a fair assumption that many users are not programmers and probably find talk of "patching the appropriate file" more than difficult. (Add that to just trying to learn Octave in the first place.) The Octave code base is a very large body of work and even to those whom are somewhat familiar with its internals, of which I am one, working on it proves a bit daunting at times. I am curious if we could provide for collecting the *specific* suggestions of users to improve the manual, perhaps on the Octave Wiki. Then those items could be inserted into the documentation by myself or others who are more familiar with the Octave source. I realize that help-octave is a similar such forum, however, what I am suggesting is a way for regular users to contribute to the project without having to become Octave coders.

Any thoughts?

JD
