I checked in a fix into the octave-forge cvs that bring galois-def.h
into line with the behaviour of version 2.1.57, rather than the fix
JWE suggested. So a better fix is to use the cvs version of octave-forge.
The reason being is that the array_value() method is also being used 
by recent version of octave and as it is not implemeneted in galois.cc
this causes a failure.... Try comms("test") to see this...
