I'm almost 100% sure you have found the "broken LAPACK libs" bug that has been reported on this list. If you want 2.1.69 binaries that are already compiled, try the ones atHi I try to compile octave-2.1.69 in Fedora Core 3 with gcc-c++-3.4.3-22.fc3 gcc-3.4.3-22.fc3 libgcc-3.4.3-22.fc3 libstdc++-3.4.3-22.fc3 gcc-g77-3.4.3-22.fc3 bison-1.875c-2 flex-2.5.4a-33 gnuplot-4.0.0-4 Kernel 2.6.11-1.14_FC3 Pentium III (Coppermine) RAM 512 MB ...Running ./octave.test/linalg/linalg.exp ...
ftp://coffee.phys.unm.edu/pub/octave/RPMS/i386/Be sure to download the blas and lapack packages that are included there, because the bug is there and not in octave.
