Suppose I'm writing a script and would like to keep all the data in the script file. Isn't this a good method?:

x = [
1 2
3 4

I used to think that it was, but now I can see that it can be extremely slow and I wonder why it is so slow. I wouldn't want to have to include separate data files with scripts because then the script has to know where to find the data file and I wouldn't know how to arrange the meeting!
