The way to do it on a Unixy system is to set GNUTERM=x11 (or similar)
in the environment before starting Octave.

It also works under Win32. Set GNUTERM to win and you should
get the old windows terminal. I tried with "sombrero": 3D plots are
faster (when rotating), but not *that* faster.
