Hello

In principle, I do not recommend to build octave from source those who are not 
familiar with buildng
software from source.

However you reall want to do it, the following page is very useful and you can 
understand how tough
the build octave from source is.

Source-Compilation

This is written for Mac-OSX but Mac-OSX is now based on Unix kernel so that 
building style is almost
the same as other Unix platforms.

BTW
What version gcc complier can be useable?
If it is under 3.2, you have to abandan to build octave from source.
