Parameter estimation - ODE

Hi,

     I have a differential equation systems for which I am using lsode to
solve. I am looking to find a parameter estimation toolbox/routines to fit
the parameters of linear differential equations to a known time-dependent
response. I know npsol can do this, but not freely available. I was
wondering if there is any freely available replacement to this routine? or
any other parameter estimation techniques in octave i can use. thanks in
advance
