Ah! Amazing! Thanks very much! That's done it. So what do I do if I want to run
it silent mode and matlab compatibility mode?

Do:

C:\Octave\3.2.4_gcc-4.4.0\bin\octave-3.2.4.exe --silent

I think just need to add a space after .exe, so .exe --silent, not
.exe--silent.

Yeh, the shortcut now reads:
C:\Octave\3.2.4_gcc-4.4.0\bin\octave-3.2.4.exe--silent
But i've also tried
C:\Octave\3.2.4_gcc-4.4.0\bin\octave-3.2.4--silent.exe
and many other combinations.
It just says its a incorrect path
