I tried that prior to going to 3.4.0.

I got the error:`xlsread' undefined. (see below)

GNU Octave, version 3.2.4
Copyright (C) 2009 John W. Eaton and others.

Octave was configured for "i686-pc-mingw32".

octave-3.2.4.exe:3> bootstrap_implementation

I seem to have got xlsread when installing 3.2.4.

`xlsread' is a function from the file C:\Octave\3.2.4_gcc-4.4.0\share\octave\packages\io-1.0.11\xlsread.m

Did you select the io package in the NSIS installer? It is not installed by default.
