May I have a question about the following issue?

I recently updated workstation to be able to install Linux distribution Ubuntu-11.04-64bit.  Then I downloaded octave dev source and has been able to build it.  However, in the resulted octave environment, I tried to install packages but failed with the error messages:

octave:2> pkg install miscellaneous-1.0.11.tar.gz
g++: %OCTAVE_CONF_MKOCTFILE_OCT_LINK_DEPS%: No such file or directory
configure: error: Could not run /home/hyu9910/hyu9910_data/projects/proj_octave/workspace/octaveInstall/O3/bin/mkoctfile-3.5.0+

the configure script returned the following error: checking for gcc... ccache gcc
checking whether the C compiler works... yes
checking for C compiler default output file name... a.out
checking for suffix of executables...
checking whether we are cross compiling... no

Now I am trying to compile stable octave-3.4.2 source, and will try installing packages again.  Meanwhile, much appreciated if any suggestions on the above-mentioned problem.  Thanks a lot!
