Da Coda Al Fine is a little old. Octave's manual itself has some
advice on writing oct files that is more up to date:
http://www.gnu.org/software/octave/doc/interpreter/Dynamically-Linked-Functions.html#Dynamically-Linked-Functions
But there are several versions of matpow in Da Coda Al Fine both in
C++ and in m-scripts. Which two versions are you comparing?
