ginput over image on Windows 7 x64, Octave 3.2.4_gcc-4.4.0

Hi,
I think I went through a number of posts on the topic.
I am developing a small interactive application in which Octave displays a
simple tiff image using imshow
and then when a user clicks on the image, the image pixels need to be
recorded and the image closed and shown another image.

I just cannot get it to work using the ButtonDownFcn callback function and
neither ginput.
In fact ginput totally hangs and I have to kill Octave and restart again.

Any ideas/inputs?
