The fact that you use GUI octave indicates that you work on windows,
prebuilt binaries for windows are available which contain a prerelease
version of octave's own gui.

I do not know how good that works in that early stage of development,
but probably it works well enough for your needs.
Other than that I can only second Jordi's comment that octave is a
programming language and that a good editor is all you need and even
helps you to learn programming instead of clicking a program together.
notepad++ is already mentioned as one option, geany and scite are
alternatives as well.
