Hello,

I have just installed Octave 3.6.4, with the updated packages, and it seems to run fine straight off the installation.

Always to the basic sin(x) plot test to check!

Cheers
Lester

I maintain a customized version of Octave for my classes. It contains
a GUI based on the code of the Octave GUI, although it can be used
also from the command line. The latest release, R8.2, works on Windows
8.

You can download this version from
http://forja.rediris.es/frs/download.php/2954/Octave-UPM-R8.2-setup.exe

Please note that you might need to install some additional
libraries. Just install Octave UPM and try to launch it. If you see
the main window, you don't have to install anything. If you get an
error, install the following file and open Octave UPM again (you don't
have to reinstall it):
http://forja.rediris.es/frs/download.php/2664/vcredist_x86.exe

Actually, the "official" Octave also works on Windows 8. The "secret"
to make Octave work on Windows 8 is launching it with the following
options: "-i --line-editing" (see
http://wiki.octave.org/Octave_for_Windows#Manual_installation_instructions
for more details). That is done by default in Octave UPM.

Cheers,
Israel
