This looks like your problem. What did 

/opt/local/var/macports/logs/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_tarballs_ports_science_netcdf/netcdf/main.log

say?

I currently have the following active:

netcdf @4.3.3.1_4+dap+netcdf4

in other words w/o +openmpi, which I haven’t tested.

The best approach is to clean netcdf

sudo port clean netcdf

then install netcdf

sudo port install netcdf

with the appropriate variants.
