If possible, can you upload config.log (Of course, It is better to be 
compressed) to Nabble.
config.log give us more information.

Another question,
Why  do you add
export FFLAGS='-ff2c' ?


I have some experience build octave from source on ubuntu.
FFLAGS='-ff2c' has been never used using gfortran for my case.
